Niagara Brewing Company’s Beer on Ice Event

Two mugs of cold beer for the beer on ice event

Beer on Ice Sure to Delight with Beer Inspired by Ice Wine and Chocolate… Oh My!

Lovers of beer, wine and chocolate won’t be able to resist Niagara Brewing Company’s Beer on Ice event on Friday, February 05, 2016 where Brewmaster Gord Slater is set to reveal a unique-to-Niagara inspired ice wine and chocolate beer. Sound too good to be true? This special beer combines the fermenting process of frozen grapes and the rich flavours of a chocolate beer that uses Hershey’s famous chocolate. The experience is completed with a special culinary menu designed to accent this one-of-a-kind beer.

Beer on Ice also features a number of the brewery’s craft beers, including:

  • Amber Eh!
  • Beerdevil India Pale Ale (IPA)
  • Honeymoon Peach
  • Niagara Premium
  • Honey Wheat
  • Hennepin Stout
  • Spiced Ale
  • Christmas Cake
  • Battlefield Brown Ale

Inspired by the Niagara region, Honeymoon Peach is a radler that evokes Niagara’s reputation as the Honeymoon capital. Local history buffs are certain to link the Battlefield Brown Ale to the Battle of Niagara Falls, which took place on July 25, 1814 during the war of 1812 and is one of the deadliest battles fought in Canada.

Each of these unique craft beers has been specially paired with menu items that are designed to accentuate their unique ingredients and flavours. Beer lovers will definitely want to try the warm soft pretzel duo which uses their Beerdevil IPA in a special cheese sauce. Or, try an order of the olde york kettle chips, which are served with an Amber Eh! infused spicy aioli. If you’re planning a stay at our hotel in Niagara Falls, this is an event you simply can’t pass up!

A Brewery with a Cunning Past

Having just opened in June, 2015, Niagara’s newest craft brewery is located on Clifton Hill, just steps from the Falls. The brewery, which plans to produce 250 hectolitres of beer a year, was built on the site of the former Foxhead Inn, which was one of Niagara Falls’ first luxury hotels. Opened by Howard Fox in 1925, Foxhead Inn was at first a subsidiary of the famous Clifton House hotel, which was lost in the New Year’s Eve fire of 1932. The hotel was rebuilt as the Falls Avenue Resort, and now the Niagara Brewing Company has taken over this historic site.

In an area with a rich history of wine it’s quite cunning to level the playing field with a local brewery, especially considering the close proximity to the Niagara College Teaching Brewery, the first fully licensed teaching brewery in Canada, where a small group of soon-to-be beer masters are trained in the craft of brewing.
